In 2023, the University of Virginia Records & Information Management Office won the 2023 NAGARA Program Excellence Award.  This session will review the requirements and the submission by the UVA RIM Team and review the program's history of excellence.  We will also review the payoffs of getting the award, especially within the University leadership.

Our speaker, Caroline Walters, CRM, is the University Records Officer at the University of Virginia.  At UVA, Caroline provides training and assistance to staff and faculty on the proper management of all records (physical and electronic) and works with technology implementation teams on the development of new electronic records systems. She leads the collection and processing of electronically stored information (ESI) for litigation, FOIA and investigations. The UVA Records & Information Management Team won the 2023 NAGARA Program Excellence Award under her leadership.  Before coming to UVA, Caroline was the Records Manager at the UNC-Chapel Hill and a Local Records Analyst with the State of North Carolina.  She has a BA in History and a MA in Public History (archives and records management) from NC State University, and an MLS (Library Science) from NC Central University.  She achieved the CRM (Certified Records Manager) designation in 2011.  She served on the ICRM Exam Development Committee as a Part 6 writer from 2012-2017 and was the Regent for Exam Development from 2017-2021.  In 2022-2024 she will serve on the executive committee for the ICRM, holding positions of President-Elect/Treasurer, President, and Chairperson of the Board.
